SOLARIS X86 SOLUTIONS
Brixton Systems Communications Software for Solaris x86
CNT/Brixton Systems is offering a versatile family of UNIX(R) to
IBM(R) SNA communications software products for SunSoft's
Solaris(TM) x86 software environment. These packages provide a
variety of LAN and WAN connectivity options, as well as APIs for
developing remote applications.
SNA Communications
At the heart of Brixton's SNA communications family is the
BrxPU2.1(TM) SNA Server, which provides a complete line of device
emulations and program interfaces for cross-platform UNIX-to-IBM
connectivity. Acting as client programs to the BrxPU2.1 Server are
programs for IBM 3270 and 5250 terminal emulation via TCP/IP; 3270
and 5250 emulation via Telnet; and 3770 emulation that enables
Remote Job Entry batch file transfers.
WAN Communications
BrxPPP(TM) internetwork routing software links remotely located
systems or networks via either
dial-up or leased lines. BrxPPP transparently supports all TCP/IP
services and the Point-to-Point
protocol. Brixton also offers BrxX25(TM) for X.25 communications
and BrxFR(TM) for Frame Relay. These packages may use either an
Intel(R) serial port or a high-speed communications board.
Application Development Tools
The BrxLU0(TM) and BrxLU6.2(TM) APIs employ the underlying
functionality of the BrxPU2.1 SNA Server to connect to SNA
networks. These powerful tools are ideally suited to developing
remote transaction processing applications such as automated
teller, airline reservation and credit card verification.
A Stable, Open Platform
Solaris x86 is a powerful and versatile UNIX software environment
for the Intel x86 platform. Designed as a foundation for
enterprise computing, it supports major industry standards and
provides high-performance 32-bit UNIX multitasking, multithreading
and multiuser capabilities. Solaris x86 is compatible with Solaris
SPARC(R), ensuring full interoperability between the leading CISC
(x86) and RISC (SPARC) platforms. And Solaris x86 is scalable from
desktops to supercomputers, so that customers can configure
heterogeneous enterprise networks and expand them easily as their
computing needs evolve.
Solaris x86 provides native ONC+(TM) technology-based LAN and WAN
networking to support broadly distributed computing and system
management. It includes powerful application and Graphical User
Interface (GUI) development tools through the OpenWindows(TM)
facility, and a rich suite of user productivity applications under
DeskSet(TM). Numerous commercial third-party applications,
including many Microsoft(R) Windows and DOS applications, run in
the Solaris x86 environment.
Brixton Systems Communications Software Features and Benefits
BrxPU2.1 SNA Server: processes all lower-level SNA protocols and
provides client interfaces to IBM mainframe and AS/400 systems via
Logical Unit sessions, Logical Unit control sessions or Physical
Unit control sessions
Brx3270(TM): a client program of BrxPU2.1 that provides
interactive UNIX-to-SNA communication by emulating the full
functionality of a 3270 SNA controller and terminals
BrxTN3270 Client(TM): enables a UNIX user to interactively query
IBM mainframe applications such as TSO, IMS, CICS and NetView via
Telnet; supports X Windows, Motif(R), OPEN LOOK(R) and VT100/TTY
BrxTN3270 Server(TM): a client program of BrxPU2.1 that provides
mainframe access via a variety of UNIX-based 3270 emulators that
support TN3270 Telnet protocols
Brx5250(TM): a client program of BrxPU2.1 that facilitates
interactive UNIX-to-SNA communication by emulating the full
functionality of a 3270 SNA controller and terminals
BrxTN5250 Client(TM): enables a UNIX user to interactively query
IBM AS/400 applications such as Office Vision via Telnet; supports
X Windows, Motif, OPEN LOOK and VT100/TTY
Brx3770/RJE(TM): a client program of BrxPU2.1 that facilitates
interactive UNIX-to-SNA communication by emulating the full
functionality of a 3770 SNA controller to transfer files and to
submit and retrieve batch jobs
BrxPPP: internetwork routing software that allows remote UNIX
users to transparently share applications, databases, printers and
files across extended enterprise networks
BrxX25: a comprehensive implementation of the 1980 and 1984
Recommendation X.25 that connects remote UNIX systems to worldwide
public and private Packet Switched Data Networks
BrxFR: a comprehensive implementation of the ANSI Recommendation
Frame Relay that connects remote UNIX systems to worldwide public
and private Frame Relay networks
BrxLU0: an API that enables development of customized remote
programs that control SNA session traffic using all of the SNA
Request Units
BrxLU6.2: an API that enables development of customized remote
programs using either the BrxLU6.2 Transaction Program Verb Set or
the CPIC (Common Programming Interface for Communications) API
